A “loving” South Coast mum already sidelined by cancer has been dealt another crushing blow after being involved in a serious head-on collision, leaving her injured and trapped for hours.

Nevin Brown was three minutes from her Nowra home when the horrific crash occurred, trapping her in her car before she was freed and rushed to a Sydney hospital.

Family friend Michael Mehmet said Ms Brown suffered a broken leg, five cracked ribs and a broken sternum in the crash.

It’s understood she collided head-on with an American tourist. No wrongdoing from either driver has been suggested.

To make matters worse, Ms Brown’s laundry list of serious injuries happened in the midst of cancer treatment, where she is battling Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and Splenic Marginal Zone Lymphoma.

“It’s a battle that had already tested her strength and resilience,” Mr Mehmet said.

Mr Mehmet said the injuries from the crash had paused Ms Brown’s “critical” cancer treatments.

“The aggressive treatments have taken a toll on her health, making it increasingly difficult for her to continue working and providing for her family,” he said.

Mr Mehmet has since created a GoFundMe for the mum, who he says loves helping others.

“As the sole provider for her family, she has spent years supporting the Nowra and surrounding community through her work at Lowes, always greeting customers with a warm smile and a helping hand,” he said.

Close to $5000 has been raised to date.

“With mounting medical expenses, home adjustments needed for her recovery, rehabilitation, and daily living costs, Nevin and her family are facing an overwhelming financial burden,” Mr Mehmet said.

“Despite these hardships, Nevin remains strong and hopeful — but she needs our help now more than ever.”

Mr Mehmet said donated funds would be used to cover essential costs, allowing Ms Brown to focus on recovery “without the added stress of financial worries”.

“Every little bit helps,” he said.
