Catalina: DPR Property lodge plans $8m unit development for Country Club Drive

A new multimillion-dollar unit development has been proposed for a coastal hideaway on the state’s south coast, one of a number of new housing projects catering the region’s population boom.

A south coast suburb could soon transform if a proposed multimillion-dollar housing development gets the green light.

If approved, the $8.4m development featuring 17 units will be erected on Country Club Dr, Catalina. The units will be located side-by-side, with a driveway located down the centre of the site leading to a gazebo at the end.

The plans were recently lodged with Eurobadalla Council by development firm DPR Property Group, with community submissions now closed.

A DPR Property spokesman said the Batemans Bay area was booming.

“Batemans Bay is a town which is having major residential growth,” he said. “It’s not just the CBD, but outer suburbs are growing too.

“While this isn’t a development like the newly built taller apartments the town is seeing, it fits the need for new housing for people who want to move into a house – not a unit in a tall building.”

The spokesman confirmed residents would be able to live in the unit all year round, unlike units at nearby caravan parks which have limitations as to how long one can live in them per year.

The prospect of more housing in the area is one which LJ Hooker Malua Bay real estate agent Karen Herrick agrees with, with a new-found need due to rapid growth.

“It’s nice to have developers coming in from other areas, it’s bringing a new category of buyers to the area we haven’t had before.”

Residents of the area have agreed with Ms Herrick, with community submissions seeing nothing but positivity.

“We need more housing and this works well, without being an eyesore,” resident Mark Halim said. “They’re small, not too tall and look modern. They will work well,” another resident, Sheryl Jan said.

The plans:

The development will see 17 one and two-storey units built side-by-side wrapping around the entire block.

Constriction of the units would also see two abandoned structures on the block demolished.

The units, if built, will be made from primarily Colorbond and other metals.

Of the 17 units, one will be two bedrooms, 15 will be three bedrooms and one will be four bedrooms.
