A south coast man serving a term of imprisonment for multiple counts of stalk and intimidate, contravening AVO orders and assault, has seen a bid for freedom swiftly declined by the courts.

Bruce Bartle, 58, was sentenced on June 3 this year in Batemans Bay Local Court after pleading guilty to four counts of stalk and intimidate to intend fear, eight counts of contravening AVO orders and one count of common assault.

The Batemans Bay man was convicted and ultimately sentenced to an aggregate term of 18 months of full time custody, six months without parole.

The sentencing of Bartle came two months after the South Coast Police District made a public appeal for his location, with the 58-year-old man being wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for a number of charges.

He was later found in the Nowra region, before being conveyed to Batemans Bay police station where he was placed in custody.

Documents tendered to the court reveal Bartle verbally abused and threatened someone close to him in March this year.

Neither the documents, nor the court, revealed what Bartle said to the victim in the matter.

However, the abuse – which was later reported to police – and Bartle being in the vicinity of the victim, broke strict AVO orders which were previously placed on him.

Following his arrest and later sentencing, Bartle’s “serious” matter was again mentioned in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, with the 58-year-old applying for bail.

Bartle’s lawyer, Geoffrey Knox, conceded bail was unrealistic, given his client’s custodial sentence and the fact he had further charges to be dealt with on July 25.

The court did not reveal what these further charges were.

Meanwhile, prosecutors agreed, noting the bail application would have to be thrown out “by default”.

Magistrate Doug Dick promptly withdrew Bartle’s bail application for his multiple, finalised charges.

Bartle will return to Batemans Bay Local Court on July 25 for his next set of matters.
