Multiple south coast liquor stores have been hit by a thief who stole more than $1700 of alcohol within two months.
Karl Brown, 25, of Batemans Bay, faced Nowra Local Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to 13 counts of larceny.
Police documents tendered to Nowra Local Court stated Brown stole a total of $1794 of alcohol between November 17 last year and January 8 this year.
He committed the offences in Liquorland Nowra, Bomaderry BWS and the Nowra Tavern.
Brown also stole $57 of groceries from Nowra Coles and $300 of clothing from Nowra Kmart.
Agreed facts stated Brown stole from Liquorland Nowra eight times, Bomaderry BWS twice and the Nowra Tavern once.
The stores, along with Nowra Kmart, presented CCTV footage of Brown committing the offences to the Nowra Police Station.
On January 18, police were patrolling the Nowra CBD when they found Brown loitering and remembered him from the footage.
“They observed the accused standing on the side of the road,” agreed facts stated.
“Police approached the accused and introduced themselves and placed the man under arrest.”
Police searched Brown’s mobile phone, where they found a text message reading, “Just getting heaps of sh-t from Kmart”.
The text was dated the same day as the Kmart CCTV footage.
Brown, who was granted bail the day of his arrest, has since spent time in Oolong House, a rehabilitation program for young Indigenous people with alcohol issues.
Brown’s lawyer Matthew Zappia said bail should be extended to allow his client to finish the rehabilitation program.
“The program is expected to finish on July 6,” Mr Zappia said.
Magistrate Lisa Viney did not oppose the recommendation.
“We will get a report from Oolong House before we go to sentencing,” she said.
Brown will return to Nowra Local Court on July 11 for sentencing.
