An elderly south coast man has admitted to a court of possessing child abuse material.

James Elliott, 77, of Batemans Bay, pleaded guilty in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday to two counts of possessing child abuse material.

Police documents tendered to Batemans Bay Local Court stated Elliott was arrested on February 9 this year.

Police allege Elliot came into possession of the prohibited material on February 1.

Officers apprehended Elliott eight days later in his Beach Rd home following the discovery he had child abuse material in his possession.

The exact details of what Elliot was possessing are currently unknown.

Solicitor Adam Sumbak entered the guilty plea on behalf of Elliott who was not present in court.

Mr Sumbak also recommended a sentencing assessment report, a recommendation Magistrate Doug Dick did not oppose.

“Because of the nature of the matter, I’m ordering a full SAR,” Mr Dick said.

Elliot will be sentenced in Batemans Bay Local Court on May 15.

His bail originally granted on February 9 will continue.
