Designs of an upcoming south coast medical health facility have been revealed, with the state government asking for the community’s feedback.
The $20m Batemans Bay Community Health facility is set for Pacific St, Batemans Bay, next to the existing hospital.
Plans reveal the facility will feature allied health services, child, youth and family services, women’s health and sexual health services, community nursing, wound management and palliative care, Aboriginal health, community mental health and drug and alcohol services.
The artist impressions provide a more detailed look at the new facility, which includes a new building housing a range of health services, as well as carpark, landscaping, pathways and external seating areas.
Now, with the release of designs, Bega MP Michael Holland has asked the community to give feedback on the facility.
“Feedback from the community has been valuable in shaping Batemans Bay Community Health service including creating connections to surrounding nature and green spaces, incorporating design elements identified by local Aboriginal community members, and improving accessibility for families, elderly people and people with specialist needs and abilities,” Dr Holland said.
Meanwhile, NSW Minister for Health Ryan Park said the facility would create better health outcomes for the Eurobodalla.
“Batemans Bay Community Health is being planned and designed to work together with the new $260 million Eurobodalla Regional Hospital, as part of the Eurobodalla Health Service, to provide the community with greater access to care, closer to home.”
The new facility comes amid Batemans Bay Hospital controversies, with the hospital set to close with the opening of the Eurobodalla Regional Hospital 30km to the south.
A community group created opposing the closure reached 18,000 signatures and has since been presented to state Opposition leader Mark Speakman.
The topic of the hospital closure will be debated in the NSW parliament this month.
However, Dr Holland said Batemans Bay would not be left without any health facilities once the new level four hospital opened its doors, with the Community Health Facility working in conjunction with the recently opened Urgent Care Clinic.
“Currently, 55 per cent of patients presenting to the Batemans Bay Hospital are for non-urgent or life threatening situations,” he said.
Community members will have the opportunity to hear more about the Batemans Bay Community Health facility at drop-in sessions with the project team on Monday, June 17, 12pm to 2pm at the Village Centre, Batemans Bay and Tuesday, June 18, 12pm to 2pm at the corner of Beach Rd and Edward Rd, Batehaven.
