A man who allegedly unlawfully entered a woman’s South Coast property before bashing a cat with a long copper pipe has denied the “serious” allegations.

Alan Gamble, 42, fronted Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, pleading not guilty to torture, beat and cause prolonged suffering to an animal, and enter premises without lawful excuse.

Gamble’s charges stem from allegations on January 25 this year, when he allegedly entered a Ritchie St, Bomaderry property without a lawful excuse.

Court documents state the Nowra man allegedly snuck along the driveway about 2am while branding a 60cm copper pipe.

The court heard while walking along the driveway, Gamble stalked the feline before allegedly hitting it over the back with the pipe.

Documents allege the cat quickly “scurried” away as Gamble gave chase.

However, it is alleged a witness viewed the alleged animal assault, yelling out at Gamble.

The court heard about 7am, the cat’s owner saw her pet to be limping.

She viewed security camera footage of her property, which allegedly showed Gamble beating it with the copper pipe.

Court documents allege the cat limped and struggled to move for three weeks following the alleged beating.

The pet owner reported the incident to police, who did not arrest Gamble until April 11 following extensive investigations.

He was refused bail and placed in custody, but was later granted bail on May 25 this year.

Gamble appeared in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, where solicitor Brett Ford entered the pleas on his behalf.

Magistrate Gabrielle Fleming adjourned Gamble’s case until July 15, where a hearing date is expected to be set.
