An employee at The Village Curry and Kebab store at East Maitland has been threatened with a baseball bat by a masked thief before they made off with cash.

A fast food employee in East Maitland has become the victim of a frightening encounter, after a hooded thief threatened him with a baseball bat before demanding cash.
The Village Curry and Kebab shop on Lawes Rd — which has only been open since September last year — became victim to an armed robbery on Sunday night.
At about 8.45pm, a man dressed in a dark hoodie, with his face covered, stormed the eatery and smashed the baseball across the counter, as the employee went into the til and handed over about $400 in cash.
He then fled the store in an easterly direction along Lawes St.
Shortly after, Port Stephens Hunter Police established a crime scene.
Another employee told The Newcastle News his co-worker was supposed to work today but after what happened, had decided to take the day off due to stress.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the nearby area to contact Maitland Police or to call Crime Stoppers.
