For a competitive athlete Sam Poolman says losing is always tough but a draw is almost as bad.

It’s why Poolman says the Giants will be especially motivated heading into their final round of the Super Netball season at Qudos Bank Arena on Saturday.

The match against West Coast Fever is the first time the two clubs have met since their June 8 draw in a match marred by a controversial issue with the scoring.

An embarrassing time bungle cost the Giants the win with the 62-62 draw later upheld despite a review which found there had been a timekeeping mishap.

Poolman said the Giants are keen to eradicate the memory of the draw with a crucial victory ahead of the Super Netball finals series which will potentially feature both NSW based teams for teh first time.

“It is important to have a good game to take good that form into finals,” said Poolman, who grew up in Newcastle and returns most weeks to be with her partner, family and friends.

“You really want the confidence of knowing you are playing well.

“The last time it was a draw and we had been up by six.

“We had opportunities but we didn’t capitalise.

“And then there was the scoring thing. We hate draws. When you draw it just makes you want to win more.”

The Giants play their crucial final match of the Super Netball preliminary season at Qudos Bank Arena in a double header with the Swifts who are up against the Queensland Firebirds.

It is a must-win game for the Giants who also need to pick up as many bonus points as possible to thwart the Collingwood Magpies late charge to secure the final spot in the top four.
