Brothers and sisters and a set of cousins spot the Australian sailing team and now twins from Lake Macquarie are proving family matters when it comes to winning world titles on the water.
Lake Macquarie’s Tom and Jess Grimes, along with crewmates James Hodgson and Harry Hall, have won the Youth Match Racing world championship sailed out of Yekaterinburg, Russia.

“We are obviously super stoked right now,’’ said Tom Grimes, who honed his sailing skills on Lake Macquarie with his sister and still races there regularly.
The four young sailors were in top form in Russia, finishing the first round robin with a 10-1 win/loss record before nailing four wins from five races in round two.
Light winds kept the crew shorebound on the final day before they were crowned world champions.
“It would have been great to win on the water but we put the hard yards in at the beginning of the event and it paid,’’ Grimes said.
The quartet represented the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia to finish ahead of teams from New Zealand and Denmark.
Earlier this month the CYCA crew also won the NSW Youth Match Racing championship sailed on Sydney Harbour for the second successive year.
Cousins Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin and brother and sister Will and Jamie Ryan are all competing for Australia this week at the Olympic test event in Tokyo.
