A woman has been arrested in NSW’s Hunter Region after she failed to stop for an RBT, crossed the median strip, hit a guard rail and collided with a car full of children.

Just after 9pm on Thursday Hunter Valley highway patrol officers attempted to stop a Mazda 3 travelling north on the New England Hwy at Singleton for a random breath test.

The 45-year-old female driver allegedly failed to stop and crossed over the median strip before police stopped the car a short distance away.

When police approached the car she allegedly accelerated, missing another vehicle before officers initiated a pursuit.

The Mazda crashed into a guard rail on the Hunter River bridge near Campbell St before colliding with a Toyota Prado carrying a woman and two children aged six and eight.

The three suffered minor injuries and were briefly treated at Singleton District Hospital.

The Mazda driver was trapped in the vehicle for a short period before Fire and Rescue NSW freed her.

She was taken to John Hunter Hospital with minor injuries and will undergo mandatory testing but police expect to lay charges upon her release from hospital.
