The wrath of COVID-19 has travelled far and wide across the nation as businesses struggle to keep their doors open.

But for some, they’re starting to thrive in this current climate, as they find new and innovative ways to adapt.

One of those is a Lake Macquarie business, which pre-empted the destructive coronavirus arrival, and quickly got to work.

“I’ve been listening to podcasts a lot and saw it coming from China so I had a bit of an idea it would hit Australia,” Daniel Borg, founder of Psyborg® said.

The web developer, which started his business in Caves Beach 14 years ago, strategised ways to drum up business, and an ingenious way to remind people to “stop the spread”.

It was through posters based on government advice.

Firstly, he created a poster for his own business before expanding and sending out branded posters to all his 400 clients to download and use.

“I got a lot of feedback saying thank you and because of that, a lot of them asked me to do status updates on what their business was doing about coronavirus,” Mr Borg explained.

“I put pop up windows on some of their sites or status bars and pivoted their websites to adapt to the crisis.”

He then did something for the general public, frustrated at how people were just not getting the message.

“I re-purposed my posters into world war two style papers,” he said.

“Bit cooler and funkier to grab people’s attention and put it all over social media.

“I got a lot of people downloading them and since had Allianz in Queensland, their offices have got them in their toilets.

“It’s had a bit of a viral spread but it has grabbed some attention.”

“I felt really frustrated the messages weren’t really getting out there as fast as they were, they weren’t clear, so as a graphic designer, I just did what I could do.

“Since then it has turned into a lot of projects, a lot of opportunities.”

And so the next phase of his plan.

Coincidentally, he’s also been writing blog articles over the last six years on how to work remotely and from home, which has gathered interest from local business in the current climate.

“I’ve put all those articles together into a coronavirus survival kit, in the middle of a landing page,” Mr Borg added.

“Before myself and my junior designer had to self isolate, we practised working far away from each other and moved our desks apart in my studio.

“We communicated as if she was at home and did for a week.”
