An emerging Kawasaki motorcycling star from the Hunter will spend Christmas behind bars, alleged to have been caught up in an ecstasy supply ring, which has spanned across parts of the Hunter and into the New England region.

At Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday, Hunter Ford, 20, was not required to appear from Parklea correctional centre, as his solicitor adjourned the matter until February.

Ford, from Anna Bay — who was supposed to be starting a lucrative two-year stint in Europe in April as he sought to break into world championship races — is now facing the prospect of a lengthy jail term after being charged with nine drug offences.

Two of those, serious charges, which include supplying a commercial quantity of 300 units of 3,4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine or MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy on two occasions in September at Singleton.

The court heard these matters will be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Ford is also facing six counts of supplying MDMA on numerous occasions at Bobs Farm, Mayfield, Newcastle, Dubbo and Anna Bay throughout October, November and December.

The last charge is for the possession of MDMA at Anna Bay on December 13.

Port Stephens-Hunter drug squad detectives swooped on Ford’s Anna Bay home last week following an investigation spanning several months.

During the search warrant, detectives allegedly seized almost 12 grams of ecstasy.

Further arrests are expected to be made.

The charges are expected to have significant ramifications for Ford’s immediate racing career.

In a December 3 media release announcing his signing with the Nutec RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki team, Mr Ford was celebrated as a two-time Australian Yamaha R3 Cup champion.

He had signed with the team for two years from 2020, with team manager Rob Vennegoor saying in the December 3 announcement that he hoped Mr Ford would “become the next successful Australian rider in our team”.
