A man was allegedly pinned between two cars by a woman known to him, in a road rage attack in Newcastle’s CBD.
Police were called to Hunter St about 6:20am on Friday morning after reports of a white ute driving dangerously.
Police alleged Kristianne Francis Bycroft and a man, who she knows but is not related to, had an argument in the Hunter St KFC car park before the man left in a yellow Holden Barina.
Police said the 29-year-old pursued the man in a white Ford Falcon ute, allegedly ramming his car several times on Honeysuckle Dr and King St.
She allegedly struck several other cars before pinning the man between two vehicles.
The man, a 55-year-old, suffered minor injuries to his arm and was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
Newcastle City Police District Commander, Detective Superintendent Wayne Humphrey, said it was lucky no one else was injured.
“The driving was an abomination, it was extremely dangerous,” Det Supt Humphrey said.
“Many lives were at risk.
“Some might find (the video) humorous, but what I’m looking at is the potential for people to die in the main street of Newcastle.”
Det Supt Humphrey said the morning’s wet weather only made conditions more dangerous.
“The tyres were spinning on the wet road and people were a short distance away,” he said.
“It would have been a massive surprise to be sitting there lawfully at a red light and someone rams you from behind.
“It could have very easily pushed one of those cars into the intersection and been a much more serious collision.”
Ms Bycroft was arrested at a nearby pub and taken to Newcastle Police Station.
She was charged with using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, driving recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, not giving particulars to other driver, and possessing a prohibited drug.
Ms Bycroft was refused bail to reappear in Newcastle Local Court on Monday, November 16.
