Nathan Coleman charged with drink driving, resisting arrest after crashing into power pole

A recovering alcoholic was allegedly four times over the legal driving limit when he slammed into a power pole at Bonnells Bay, bringing down live wires.

A suspended driver, allegedly nearly four times over the limit when he crashed his car into a power pole in Lake Macquarie region has told a magistrate he is seeking help for mental health issues.

Nathan Coleman, 36, allegedly refused to provide his NSW driver’s license or any personal details to police when they arrived at Princes St, Bonnells Bay on September 2, where his car had lost control and crashed into a pole, bringing down lives wires.

Police allege the Lake Macquarie tiler threatened them before he had to be restrained.

He was breath tested and allegedly recorded a reading of 0.185, before being arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station.

He was charged with high-range drink driving, driver refuse to disclose identity, drive while license suspended and resist arrest.

He was granted strict conditional bail with court documents revealing he was a recovering alcoholic and failed to stay sober on the day of the incident.

Mr Coleman appeared at Toronto Local Court on Tuesday and the court heard the suspended driver was seeking an adjournment to get legal advice.

He expressed to Magistrate Andrew Eckhold he was seeking help for mental health issues, before the matter was adjourned for two weeks until October 27.
