A Raymond Terrace woman charged with the stabbing death of a man in the Hunter will head to trial before a jury next year.

Lily Ridgeway pleaded not guilty to murder at arraignment in Sydney’s Supreme Court on Friday.

At a previous mention, she indicated she is set to claim self defence in relation to the death of Medowie man Jason Adams, 27, at Raymond Terrace on February 29.

Police allege Mr Adams had returned to a house where he had been bailed to reside at when an altercation occurred on Payton St with Ms Ridgeway.

Police further allege the 27-year-old was stabbed on the side of the torso, before stumbling about 30 metres where he collapsed onto the road and died at the scene from blood loss.

Ridgeway was arrested two days later at a mid north coast hotel.

When asked if the trial would be judge-alone, Ridgeway’s lawyer Lizzie McLaughlin said they would like it to proceed in front of a jury.

The Crown told the court, Newcastle would be an ideal location to hold the trial but Ms McLaughlin noted her client wanted for the trial to proceed in Sydney.

“Ms Ridgeway has a concern travelling on the truck, and it may lead to an earlier trial date,” she said.

The trial date is scheduled to be set next week with an estimate of two to three weeks.

“I propose a timetable in the District Court of about 14 weeks,” Justice Robert Hulme said.

“People in custody will get priority than those on bail.”

In a previous Supreme Court appearance in September, strict bail conditions and a new life in Dubbo were offered up for Ms Ridgeway’s release back into the community as she awaits trial, but she was refused bail.
