Detectives have raided the home of a Lake Macquarie man, accused of setting up a business scam by acting as a specialist doctor to defraud money from his alleged clients.

Matt John Murdoch, 53, was charged with dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception, taking the title of a specialist health practitioner and driving while disqualified.

Police allege he used an alias and business to promote himself as a specialist doctor, to receive money from clients and fraudulently obtained over $10,000.

In November 2019, detectives from Strike Force Corymbia investigated Mr Murdoch for the alleged fraudulent offences.

After extensive inquiries, police searched a home on Watson Street at Ellalong, about 15km south of Cessnock, where he was arrested and later charged.

During the search, police seized a number of items including laptops and mobile phones.

Mr Murdoch appeared via video link at Newcastle Local Court on Friday where he pleaded not guilty to the charge of drive while disqualified.

He was granted conditional bail where he must report to Cessnock Police Station on Friday, adhere to a curfew between 9pm and 5am and ordered not to enter the suburb of Eleebana.

His matter has been adjourned until next month.

Investigations are ongoing. Anyone who may have information which could assist investigators is urged to come forward.
