Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne again wasn’t required to turn up to court today, as both parties work to sort out a subpoena issue in his rape trial before the November 23 start date.
In Newcastle District Court on Thursday, the Crown Prosecutor said there’s set to be a “possible resolution” in relation to the subpoena, which was due back on Thursday.
The court heard there were ongoing discussions between Hayne’s defence and the prosecution, but there was some difficulty in accessing material due to COVID-19.
The matter was adjourned until November 19, in hope for it to be resolved, days ahead of the trial start date.
Originally set down for May 4 in the Newcastle District Court, coronavirus meant the jury trial was vacated and another date set for November 23.
It’s hoped that won’t have to happen again.
The Former Eels and Titans back is facing two charges of aggravated sexual assault for the alleged rape of a woman in the Hunter Valley.
Police allege Hayne caught a taxi to a woman’s house in the Newcastle area on NRL grand final night on September 30, 2018.
He has pleaded not guilty to both counts.
The trial is expected to take two weeks.
