It will be another five months until former NRL star Jarryd Hayne will get to plead his innocence, with his rape trial set to be in front of a jury in November.
Originally set down for May 4 in the Newcastle District Court, the dreaded coronavirus meant the trial was vacated and another date set.
In April, Judge Roy Ellis gave Hayne the choice of having a judge-alone trial which would mean it could have proceeded in May, but he rejected that offer, instead preferring a jury trial.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) also indicated it wanted to go ahead with a jury trial, which has been set down for November 23.
Hayne’s matter was again mentioned in the District Court on Thursday, at which the Dally M medallist was not required to be present.
His solicitor Penny Musgrave noted to the court there were outstanding discussions with the Crown and subpoena issues had to be rectified.
It was adjourned until August 13.
The Former Eels and Titans back is facing two charges of aggravated sexual assault for the alleged rape of a woman in the Hunter Valley.
Police allege Hayne caught a taxi to a woman’s house in the Newcastle area on NRL grand final night on September 30, 2018.
He has pleaded not guilty to both counts.
The trial is expected to take two weeks.
