A man charged with alleged credit card fraud was not happy with waiting media outside Newcastle Local Court on Thursday as he yelled “Take a picture maggot” and spat aggressively.
James Paul Hall, 24, was arrested at his Stockton home on Wednesday, after a police raid in Watkins St Merewether allegedly uncovered a large quantity of property believed to be stolen, which included credit cards, driver's licences, jewellery, and medication.
Court documents allege Hall used a stolen bank debit visa card at various places at The Junction and Newcastle on January 20 and again on January 27 to buy numerous items.
These allegedly included tobacco, groceries, mobile phone credit, a folding knife and even some food at Harry’s Schnitzel joint.
Police allege he also used a stolen prescription to obtain 12 sildenafil tablets at the chemist.
Hall is facing seven counts of dishonestly obtaining property by deception. He pleaded not guilty to intentionally and recklessly damaging mailboxes at the Royal Apartments in Newcastle, and larceny for allegedly stealing a parcel out of a mailbox on King St.
He also pleaded guilty to a charge of custody of a knife in a public place when police discovered he had a pocket knife when they searched him at Hamilton early last month.
He did not enter a plea on other charges.
His bail continued, for the matter to be adjourned until next month.
A 27-year-old woman was also arrested at the Watkins St address on Wednesday and charged with two counts of larceny.
She was refused bail and will face Newcastle Local Court next month.
