Detectives then started taking fresh statements from other women who contacted investigators, before Mr Hanson was again charged in November with an additional 45 sexual assault offences.

Those included 26 counts of aggravated sexual assault, sexual intercourse without consent, five counts of aggravated indecent assault, five counts of indecent assault, common assault and seven counts to incite a person under the age of 16 to commit an act of indecency.

In Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, the prosecution said police needed a three month adjournment as new witnesses had surfaced in the case and the officer in charge had now left the police force.

Mr Hanson’s solicitor opposed the long adjournment and instead the matter was held over until late March. He remains bail refused.

Investigations continue.
