Hunter New England Local Health District (HNEHD) confirmed it’s providing care and support to one of the previously announced COVID-19 cases.
A Hunter man in his 70s began to exhibit symptoms after recently returning from Italy.
Health staff are undertaking daily wellness checks while he is in isolation at home and he is doing well.
A HNEHD spokesperson said his close contacts have been contacted and asked to self-isolate.
“They are being contacted every day by the public health unit to check that they are well,” they said.
“Any contact who develops COVID-19 symptoms will be tested for the infection.”
NSW Health is continuing to trace and respond to cases as they are diagnosed to slow any spread of COVID-19 in the community.
On Monday, close to 50 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in NSW, with more than 90 Australia wide and three deaths.
The Australian Department of health is urging people with flu-like symptoms to avoid public places, such as work, school, shopping centres, childcare and university.
While some people recover easily, others may get very sick very quickly and there is evidence it spreads from person to person. Good hygiene can prevent infection.
