Edgeworth crash: Teenager charged with injuring Tamika Wever released on bail
A 17-year-old boy accused of running a red light and smashing his vehicle into a taxi injuring 10 people - including young mum Tamika Wever (pictured) who’s still in hospital in a serious condition - has been released on bail.

A young mother-of-three remains lying in a hospital bed in a serious condition, as the teenager who allegedly ran a red light and crashed into the loaded maxi-taxi she was in, has been released on bail.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified, was granted supreme court bail earlier this week with strict conditions which include living with his stepmother in Hamilton South, a 9pm to 6am curfew, not to occupy the driver’s seat of a vehicle and abstain from alcohol and drugs.
Tamika Wever’s family are devastated by the news and are finding it hard to understand why the teenager has been released.
“It’s not fair at all,” sister Tash Reid said.
The 24-year-old mother had been enjoying herself at a pub in Edgeworth and was on her way home with fiancee Dylan Whitey and friends early morning on September 26, when another vehicle slammed into the mini-van.
Ten people were injured in the horror smash, Ms Wever critically.
The teenager is accused of running the red light in his Holden Statesman packed with teenagers and slamming into the Hiace van, pushing it onto its side.
Lake Macquarie Police patrolling Edgeworth that night saw the Holden leave a service station on Main Rd, Edgeworth and did a U-turn to follow the vehicle “due to the manner of driving” before the collision occurred.
The 17-year-old was charged with 15 offences including three counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, drive manner dangerous, eight counts of cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of a motor vehicle, two counts of negligent driving, not stop at red light and disqualified driving.
The teenager was also on a good behaviour bond for crashing a stolen car while drunk less than two months before the smash.
He had never held a license when he was disqualified from driving, fined and placed on a 12-month bond for the incident on August 2 in Merewether.
He was charged with car theft, negligent driving, driving with a mid-range PCA and driving a car without ever holding a licence.
The teenager will reappear in children’s court on October 26.
