The Newcastle News can now reveal the identity of an Upper Hunter man who is facing several domestic violence related assault charges, including against a mother of three.
Ashley George Morgan, 34, was arrested at a vehicle stop in Muswellbrook last month.
It followed a large scale operation south east of Tamworth - in the small town of Nundle - where detectives were investigating the suspicious death of a baby boy in Aberdeen on Sunday, May 17.
Despite being rushed to Muswellbrook hospital, the child suffered significant injuries and was unable to be revived, with an autopsy to determine the child’s exact cause of death.
Mr Morgan has been charged with three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of common assault and was granted a non-publication order until Monday to suppress his name and identity.
Court documents allege Mr Morgan assaulted the woman on two occasions in May causing bruising and swelling to her left eye.
He has also been charged with destroy or damage property.
He has not been charged over the death of the baby, and has been assisting police with their inquiries.
In Newcastle Local Court last month, Mr Morgan’s assault charges were referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The prosecution told the court it was likely further serious charges could be laid but that is yet to happen.
He’ll be back in court later this month.
Police are continuing their inquiries into the death of the baby boy.
