A court has heard how a man, who secretly filmed women while they were showering and getting dressed, labelled himself a “monster” but only after his “deplorable” behaviour was pointed out to him.

Ryan Oliver, 23, pleaded guilty to nine charges of intentionally recording intimate images without consent after he preyed on five women who had stayed with him at his Raymond Terrace home.

Police facts detail how Mr Oliver filmed the different women – which included his ex-girlfriend and friends – on several occasions in April and December, 2018, by lurking outside the bedroom window and shooting them naked as they came out of the shower and got dressed.

Mr Oliver also kept a series of videos of one woman, time stamped from August 2017, of her showering, and had a number of naked “intimate” photos of her in her bedroom at Mudgee on his phone.

Police facts also detailed how he recorded another woman in the shower, who was staying with him and his then girlfriend, when he resided in Bathurst.

The videos and nude photographs were only discovered when his girlfriend decided to look through Mr Oliver’s room on January 10, after being upset their relationship had ended due to infidelity.

She reported it to police and when they questioned him about it, he led them to where he used to set up his phone on the window ledge, standing on his bin to record.

He told police the reason for doing it was that watching too much porn was getting boring.

In Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday, Mr Oliver’s solicitor Lauren O’Brien said her client had shown “honest remorse” and acknowledged how it had caused distress to his victims.

“His behavior was deplorable but it needed to be pointed out and he thought he was a monster,” she told the court.

Magistrate Brett Shields told Mr Oliver it was an “reprehensible” way to behave.

“Everybody has the right to be within their homes, to go about their lives without this intrusion. It is very troubling,” he said.

While Magistrate Shields told the court his offences were “disturbing” he said a psychiatric report stating his vulnerabilities and difficulties in life had saved him from full time imprisonment.

Mr Oliver was sentenced to a three years Intensive Corrections Order (ICO) and ordered to complete 300 hours of community service.
