Aaron Moran, 33, charged after alleged assault and shooting up vehicle near Cessnock

A man, who handed himself into police, following an alleged shooting and assault in the Hunter Valley, has been charged and made no application for bail in Newcastle Local Court.

A man, who allegedly swung a tomahawk through the driver’s side window of a vehicle injuring a man, before shooting up his vehicle in the Hunter Valley last week will remain in custody.

Aaron Moran, 33, was charged with discharge firearm with intent cause grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others and made no application for bail at Newcastle Local Court on Monday.

On Tuesday afternoon, September 17, police received reports shots had been fired at Scott street Weston, in what was believed to be a targeted attack.

Police have been told a 27-year-old man — accompanied by an 18-year-old man — fronted a business on Scott street, where it’s alleged he was threatened by three men, armed with a firearm, tomahawk, and a hammer.

The 27-year-old suffered a wound to his head after he was hit with the tomahawk through the driver side window of his Toyota Land Cruiser. Police allege shots were also fired into the driver’s side door before the pair fled.

A short time later police found the vehicle riddled with bullet holes on Boundary street at Kurri Kurri.

Following investigations, Moran handed himself into Kurri Kurri police station on Friday afternoon, where he was arrested and charged.

The matter has been adjourned until November 20 at Cessnock Local Court.
