Newcastle Police have had the last laugh after a woman who was wanted on an arrest warrant and baited police on social media was arrested at Sydney airport on Thursday.
Last week, police shared an image of 21-year-old Dakota Clarke on the Newcastle City District Police Facebook page, who was wanted on warrants for failing to appear at court.
The post reached almost 70,000 members of the community and was shared more than 700 times leading to numerous information leads.
The woman then took to social media and posted a message directed at police showing her desire to avoid arrest.
“I was gonna hand myself in but yous can get f**ked now, as if HAHAHAHAHA,” it wrote.
“That photos atrocious, it looks like I’ve had a big week on the game mate, yuck.”
What she didn’t count on was the policing network, and as she tried to board an international flight to New Zealand Thursday afternoon at Sydney airport, she was arrested by police.
Ms Clarke has pleaded guilty to smuggling tobacco into Shortland Correctional in June and is charged with shoplifting a Tommy Hilfiger jumper from David Jones at Kotara in August.
