JUNIOR Sports Star nominee Shantarna McPherson-Bremner has spent most of her waking hours preparing to represent her country at the world championships in Mexico in November.

The 15-year-old St Clair wakeboarder trains every spare minute she gets, even finishing her homework and assignments during recess to give her more time.

Shantarna claimed her first international title last year at the Asia Australasian Games in Taiwan and hopes to take home her second in Mexico.

She has won the Australian National Wakeboarding Championships in 2014 and 2015.

For Shantarna the sky is the limit: “I want to become as good as I can get.”

Pro women’s world No.2 Courtney Angus, Shantarna’s coach, predicted the teenager could win the competition in Mexico.

“I’ve travelled all over the world and I’ve seen the talent in her age group, and she definitely has a good chance,” Angus said.

Shantarna’s mother Rachael McPherson-Bremner said she was proud of her daughter. “She’s managed to be top of her class in academic achievement even though she gets no time to study at home,” she said.

“She’s extraordinarily dedicated to her sport but it doesn’t interfere with her academic achievement.

“She manages to find time to coach for free. She coaches gymnastics once a week or she coaches young wakeboarders on Saturday.”
