Seven Doonside Technology High School students have been selected to represent NSW/ACT in the AFL National Inclusion Carnival.
Held this week in Launceston, Tasmania, the carnival is an annual representative competition for male athletes with an intellectual disability.
Talented footballers Adam Jones, Thomas Cavanagh-Boyd, Adam Orchard, Dylan Donaldson, Jason Trindall, James McKay and Sevastien Camilleri will get the opportunity to showcase their skills on the footy field in a round robin competition against the top 16 players from each state.
It’s the first time in the National Inclusion Carnival’s five-year history that this many players have been selected from a single school.
“The carnival is very important,” AFL NSW/ACT community football support manager Jacinta Houston said.
“It not only gives some of Australia’s most talented footballers the chance to represent their state/territory but also an opportunity to showcase the significant abilities of footballers with an intellectual disability to the broader community.
“Many parents and guardians say the players come back from the carnival with more confidence and strong friendships that were found during the carnival- not only with players from their team but other states/territories as well.”
