Teen charged after four young men allegedly assaulted near Hickson St, Merewether
One person has been charged and police are hunting further suspects after four young men were hospitalised with serious injuries after allegedly being bashed adjacent to one of Newcastle’s most exclusive streets.

A teenager has been charged with serious assault offences following the hospitalisation of four young men, who suffered a range of facial injuries after allegedly being bashed as they walked home on one of Newcastle’s most exclusive streets.
At least two of the four alleged victims, all aged 22, suffered broken jaws, while others reported busted teeth, facial cuts and other injuries after the incident at Merewether Heights early on Sunday.
Police said the four men were walking on a path between Lloyd St and Hickson St about 12.30am when they were allegedly bashed by a group of men.
Paramedics treated all four men at the scene before they were taken to John Hunter Hospital with what police said was “a range of facial injuries”.
It is understood at least one victim has had his jaw wired after it was fractured and another of his friends also allegedly had his jaw broken.
Injuries also included broken teeth, severe facial cuts and abrasions and suspected fractures.
All four injured men are believed to have been walking home together after a night out.
Police kicked off an investigation before arresting an 18-year-old at a Maitland home on Sunday.
He was taken to Maitland Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of recklessly causing grievous bodily harm in company, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company, and affray.
He was granted conditional police bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on September 12.
Investigations were continuing to identify others who were involved.
