A brutal bathroom assault at a Newcastle club led police to the home of a bikie nominee – but they soon uncovered much more when they found drugs and cash stuffed inside his underwear.

Muswellbrook man Clifford McGrady was in Newcastle on November 18, 2023, at the local races before heading to Souths Merewether later that afternoon for a ‘fight night’ his son was taking part in.

Police facts detailed the 37-year-old – who is on his way up in the Nomads outlaw motorcycle gang – was at the event with friends including the victim, someone he knew through work.

But a request to chat with the 33-year-old in the bathroom turned violent when the accused overheard him talking about a family member.

Court documents state McGrady and another man walked into the toilets before the other man approached and punched the victim in the mouth, which caused him to fall back and hit his head on the urinal trough.

The pair left before the victim slowly got to his feet and stumbled to the bar area to alert staff.

He was given first aid before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

Police facts further state McGrady’s presence at the club that day was all captured on CCTV, including when he entered and left the bathroom.

On January 9 last year, officers from State Crime Command Raptor Squad raided McGrady’s home at Muswellbrook and arrested him.

Police facts state that during a strip search on the 37-year-old, they found 142 grams of methamphetamine and $7500 in cash hidden in his underwear which he claimed was from the sale of a dirtbike.

Court documents also state officers located within a secret pocket of a Nomads vest a further 146 grams of meth.

McGrady fronted Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to five charges which included commercial drug supply, deal with the proceeds of crime, failure to change residential address and failure to comply with a digital evidence access order.

He also admitted to a charge of concealing a serious indictable offence on November 18, 2023, when he failed to bring information to the attention of authorities to apprehend the other man involved.

His matters will now head to the District Court next month for a sentence date to be set.
