Sulusi Sauaga, 24, charged with attempted murder after an alleged hit and run at Cardiff

A Lake Macquarie man has been accused of assaulting another man before striking him with his car and fleeing. His matters were mentioned in court.

A Lake Macquarie man accused of assaulting another man before striking him with his car and fleeing the scene has had his matters mentioned in court.

Sulusi Sauaga, 24, from Bolton Point, was charged with attempted murder after a 36-year-old man was found injured on a Cardiff roadway about 1:30am on January 17.

He was treated by paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital.

Police set up a crime scene on Harrison St and commenced an investigation with the assistance of specialist officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.

Officers located the vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident on Devon St, Wallsend.

It was seized for forensic examination.

Sauaga was arrested the following day and taken to Waratah Police Station.

He was also charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact occasioning grievous bodily harm, proceed through red light and drive whilst suspended.

The 24-year-old was not required to appear in Newcastle Local Court when his matters were briefly mentioned on Wednesday.

The case was adjourned until March.
