The locked gates and intercom system of the Hunter boutique bed and breakfast have kept the wandering eyes at bay both before and after Steve Galcsik allegedly ran down and killed his wife in front of relatives at their 105-acre Pokolbin property.
And now, Strike Force Stockport investigators will perform a deep dive into the years of private family history hidden behind those timber and iron gates – and down that kilometre-long driveway – as they build a brief of evidence against the 47-year-old following Friday’s tragedy.
Police will allege Galcsik ran over his wife’s body multiple times before horrified relatives physically intervened just after sunset, and moments before authorities were alerted in a frantic triple-0 call from a family member about 6.15pm.
Galcsik, who was arrested at the Pokolbin property, had his matter briefly mentioned again in Newcastle Local Court on Monday, where he was not needed to be brought up from the cells as his lawyer told the court that they would not be making a release application.
Magistrate Ian Cheetham formally remanded him into custody on one count of domestic violence-related murder.
He will face court again in November.
Court papers alleged Galcsik murdered Natalia, who is also known as Natalie, between 6pm and 6.15pm at the Coulson Rd property they are believed to have bought in 2017.
Police have confirmed there was no history on their records relating to the couple and officers had never been called out to the sprawling property until Friday night.
They will also await the results from an autopsy on Ms Galcsik’s body.
And as part of the ongoing investigation, detectives will need investigate the couple’s history by interviewing close relatives, friends and associates.
The “victimology” process will also allow them to paint a picture of Ms Galcsik, including in the 14 months since the couple lost a seven-year-old last year when he drowned in a dam.
Police had remained at the property, named Unlax @ Hunter Valley where their luxury self-contained cottages stood, for more than 24 hours over the weekend as they gathered evidence.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up to support family members and attracted words of support from friends.
“It’s not often I’m at a loss for words but this has left me speechless and heartbroken,” one friend wrote.
“Anyone who knew Natalie ... would know how kind and selfless she was.”
