A man has faced court after allegedly leading police on a 165kmh chase through suburban parts of Port Stephens before kicking a police officer in the chest during an arrest.

A man has been remanded in custody after allegedly leading police on a chase through parts of Port Stephens where speeds reached 165kmh.
Rhys James Allen, 30, was arrested after allegedly kicking a police officer in the chest as he attempted to escape in a second car after the chase through parts of Corlette, Nelson Bay and Salamander Bay in the early hours of Friday.
Police said they attempted to stop a black Ford ute on Bagnalls Beach Rd at Corlette about 3am before the driver failed to stop.
“The vehicle stopped on Spinnaker Way, Corlette, and the driver has attempted to flee in a waiting Toyota RAV 4,” police said in a statement.
“Police will allege as they attempted to remove the man from the Toyota, he has kicked an officer in the chest.”
Allen was arrested, taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with police pursuit, custody of a knife, assault police, possess prohibited drug and driving while suspended.
He faced Raymond Terrace Local Court on Friday where he was not required to enter a plea and did not apply for bail.
He was formally remanded in custody to reappear in court on June 24.
