Two men who had stopped to change a flat tyre on Oyster Cove Rd became the focus of police attention, after reports they had been driving dangerously.

But it was the drugs and cash allegedly found in their ute that left one of them behind bars.

Police were patrolling Oyster Cove, near Port Stephens, on Monday afternoon when they stopped and spoke to the men, aged 20 and 25.

A search of the Holden ute allegedly turned up methylamphetamine and more than $2000 in cash, including some notes melted together.

The 20-year-old man, from Lemon Tree Passage, was charged with supplying an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug, dealing with the proceeds of crime, and a breach of bail offence.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday.
