A Port Stephens man who became victim to an attempted robbery while on a morning walk has fought off his attacker by grabbing hold of his testicles.

A 56-year-old man was walking along Curlew Av, Hawks Nest, at about 11.30am on Saturday, when he was approached by two unknown men.

Police have been told one of the men grabbed his shoulder and demanded he hand over his wallet before punching him in the face when he refused.

He fell to the ground and was continued to be assaulted, as his attacker tried to wrestle his wallet off him, while the second man stood nearby.

Police said the 56-year-old then reached up and took “firm hold” of the man’s testicles, who then let out a loud, high pitched squealing which caused both men to flee.

“At that time the victim released his iron fisted grip on his assailant‘s genitalia allowing his assailant to run off, albeit with a strange and pronounced awkwardness to his stride,” police said.

It also attracted the attention of a motorist passing by, who came to the man’s aid

The 56-year-old sustained minor injuries including bruising and swelling, but didn’t require hospital treatment.

Port Stephens-Hunter Police are now investigating the assault and reviewing CCTV footage to identify the men.

They’re also appealing to the public for any information on the incident, and urging the male motorist who stopped to help to come forward, as he may be able to assist with police inquiries.

Both men are described as being caucasian, aged in their early 30s, between 170-180cm tall, with slim builds and short dark hair.

One of the men is also described as having facial stubble and missing a number of teeth.

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the nearby area or who may have dashcam footage or CCTV is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
