Police appeal for information into shooting during home invasion at Newcastle property

A manhunt is underway and police are appealing for any information after a suburban Newcastle home was shot up during what’s believed to be a home invasion last week.

A manhunt is underway after a Newcastle home was shot up during what police believe to be home invasion last week.

Strike Force Barkov detectives are investigating the incident, which is believed to have occurred about 3:50am on May 30 at a home in Mayfield, where officers came across a damaged front door, consistent with the firing of a shotgun.

A search in and around the Bull St address also uncovered an unspent bullet, knife and knuckledusters.

They were seized by officers and are currently undergoing forensic examination.

Police said in a statement that detectives believed the firearm was discharged during a home invasion.

They are now on the hunt for those responsible and urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333. 000.
