A well-known Hunter Valley businessman remains behind bars on remand after being charged with allegedly using a hidden camera to film intimate footage of an underage girl without her knowledge.

Detectives arrested the man, who can not be identified for legal reasons, earlier this month following an investigation into the discovery of images and videos.

It is alleged the man, aged in his 50s and very well known in sections of the Hunter business community, used a hidden camera to film the girl.

The man was charged with two counts each of using a child under 14 years to make child abuse material, filming a person in a private act without consent (aggravated) and intentionally record an intimate image without consent.

He was refused bail by police before a Hunter magistrate also refused a release application earlier this week.

The man was remanded in custody to reappear in court in November.

Investigations were continuing.
