An Australian Federal Police (AFP) investigation has led to the arrest of a Hunter man for child-abuse related offences.

The home of the 26-year-old was raided on Thursday following an AFP-led operation with the assistance of the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE).

It followed a report from the United States’ National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) about a user uploading child abuse material to several online platforms.

Police allegedly linked the man to the accounts uploading the material.

A mobile phone and laptop, allegedly containing child abuse material, were seized at the home and further digital devices will be subject to further forensic examination.

He’s facing seven charges including two counts of using a carriage service to transmit child abuse material, two counts of using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material, two counts of possessing child abuse material and using a carriage service to access child abuse material.

The maximum penalty for these offences is 15 years’ imprisonment.

The man faced Raymond Terrace Local Court on Friday where he was bail refused.

His matters have been adjourned until October 17.

AFP Detective Sergeant Navi Pandher warned that watching, downloading or purchasing child abuse material was not a victimless crime.

“There is no less-culpable option when it comes to this type of offending. Child abuse material is a record of the horrific abuse of children and if you seek it out you are supporting an industry that preys on children,’’ he said.

Members of the public who have information about people involved in child abuse and exploitation are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
