Female driver dies in M1 Motorway rollover at Lenaghan, near Beresfield

The southbound lanes of the M1 Motorway have reopened after a woman died when her vehicle left the road, rolled and hit a tree.

A female driver has died after her vehicle left the M1 Motorway, rolled and hit a tree on Monday morning.

Emergency services were called to the southbound lanes of the motorway near Lenaghan about 10.35am following reports a vehicle had rolled.

“Police have been told a vehicle had rolled before hitting a tree,” police said in a statement.

“NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the driver, however, they were pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The woman is believed to have been aged in her 20s.

The southbound lanes remained closed for several hours as Newcastle City police investigated the crash just past Black Hill Rd.

Authorities reopened the motorway about 2.15pm.
