Fatal crash on James Street, Windale in the Hunter region
An elderly woman has died in hospital following a two-car crash in the Hunter region last week with a younger woman escaping uninjured.

A woman has died in hospital following a two-car crash in the Hunter region last week.
The crash occurred on James Street, Windale on Friday at about 3.30pm.
When emergency services arrived they found a Hyundai i30 and a Ford Fiesta had collided.
The vehicles were both badly damaged from the crash according to officers from the Lake Macquarie Police District.
The 82-year-old woman driving the Hyundai was unable to exit the wreckage of her car, with NSW Ambulance paramedics providing medical treatment.
The emergency crews worked to free the trapped driver to transport her to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
Despite the efforts of the medical teams, the 82 year old woman passed away two days later in hospital.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta was a 29-year-old woman.
She was not injured in the collision.
