Wallsend: Dale Morgan Sheehan, 36, charged with drug supply and other charges after Hamilton car theft investigation

Police who raided a suburban home as part of an investigation into a tradie’s truck full of tools being stolen have allegedly seized 50g of meth and a firearm.

Police have allegedly seized almost two ounces of methamphetamine and a gel blaster during a raid prompted by an investigation into the theft of a tradie’s car full of work tools.

The Newcastle City proactive crime team was called in to investigate the theft of a Toyota HiLux from a home on Donald St at Hamilton North about 2am on January 21.

The car, which had contained a large amount of power tools, was located empty eight hours later on Brooks St Wallsend.

Police said in a statement that officers had “identified a premises of interest” on nearby Lewis St.

Officers stopped a car after it was seen leaving the Lewis St premises about 9.30am on Friday before a search allegedly found several suspected power tools.

A man, 35, was arrested and taken to Wallsend police station where he was charged with goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen, attempting to dispose of property – theft, being an unaccompanied learner driver and not displaying “L” plates.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on March 6.

About 3pm the same day, officers executed a search warrant at the home on Lewis Street and allegedly seized several power tools, a gel blaster, and approximately 50g of methamphetamine.

Dale Morgan Sheehan, 36, was arrested at the scene and later charged with supplying a indictable quantity of a prohibited drug, breaching bail, possessing an unregistered firearm, and not keeping a firearm safely.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday, where he made a successful release application.

Magistrate Robert Rabbidge granted bail with conditions including reporting to police three times a week, not take drugs unless prescribed by a doctor and agree to forfeit $500 if he failed to comply with the conditions.

Sheehan will appear in Newcastle Local Court on February 17.
