East Maitland tomahawk fight: Woman charged after man allegedly hit with axe
Police are investigating whether a heated argument over a stray dog, at a home in East Maitland, between two groups of people, escalated into a man allegedly being assaulted with a tomahawk.

Detectives are investigating whether an alleged tomahawk attack which saw a man hospitalised with serious injuries stemmed from a neighbourhood dispute over a dog.
A man, 35, suffered significant injuries to his back after allegedly being struck with the tomahawk in the front yard of an East Maitland home on Tuesday night.
A woman was arrested within hours while a teenager was taken into custody on Wednesday morning.
Up to three other people, including the person who was armed with the axe, remained at large on Wednesday night.
Police said three men and two women arrived at an Alliance St home about 8pm and started arguing with the alleged victim and a 28-year-old woman.
Detectives are investigating whether the argument began earlier in the day regarding a stray dog.
Police allege the female resident was assaulted before one of the visiting men struck the male resident several times in the back with the tomahawk.
Despite suffering significant injuries to his back, he was able to contact emergency services.
The five visitors left before police arrived.
The alleged victim was taken by road to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition, with his injuries not considered life threatening.
Officers attended a nearby Bruce St residence about 12.20am on Wednesday and arrested a 20-year-old man.
She was taken to Maitland police station and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm; wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and affray.
She was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Maitland Local Court on August 12.
A youth, 18, was arrested on Wednesday morning and charged with two minor offences and granted bail.
The hunt for the alleged axe attacker and two others continues.
