RAY Morcomb has been making a name for himself in international karate.
And now he is off to Dubai in February, after taking out the World Karate Federation Championships demonstration competition in Paris in December.
Morcomb was asked to perform his kata unsu after the event, as part of his prize, and he was given a standing ovation lasting over five minutes by a packed stadium.
Born with poor vision, Morcomb is regarded as legally blind but can walk without assistance.
He runs Evolution Martial Arts and has training studios at Pennant Hills and Thornleigh.
"I won gold in my individual event for athletes with a disability in Paris at the WKF World Championships and I was then asked by the WKF President Antonio Espins to perform a solo demonstration on the main day of the finals, in front of 16,000 people," he said.
"After 23 years of training, competing and coaching karate to do this was by far the greatest achievement (for me)."
"I've now been invited to compete and perform a demonstration at the 2013 WKF Dubai Open."
