Jenny Whitely smashes national Masters records

RYDE swimmer Jenny Whitely has come within a second of breaking two world records at the NSW Long Course Championships.

RYDE swimmer Jenny Whitely has come within a second of breaking two world records at the AUSSI Masters NSW Long Course Championships in March.

The breaststroke queen smashed two Australian records by several seconds in the 100m and 200m breaststroke (55 to 59 age division) at Blacktown Aquatic Centre and missed a world record in the 50m breaststroke by a second.

Jenny was also named female swimmer of the meet, Ryde AUSSI Masters Swimming Club president Chris Lock said. Ryde coach Wendy Seale was named coach of the year.

"We have the national championships coming up in the middle of April and most of us are in full training without any taper, making Jenny's times incredibly good," Lock said. "She knocked off two national records and is (within) cooee of two world records."

Whitely slashed four seconds from the national record in the 100m breaststroke, clocking 1.25.54sec, narrowly missing the world record of 1.25.19sec.

She swam the 200m breaststroke in 3.11.32sec, short of the 3.04.32sec world record.

Seale, club coach since 2007 and a swimming instructor at Knox Grammar School Aquatic Centre, was awarded Ryde AUSSI Masters Swimming Club's service award in 2011.
