A THREE-STOREY pub proposed for Macquarie Park would help create a night-time economy, but a nearby childcare centre believes its children and staff could suffer anti-social consequences.

A hotel group has lodged a development application for what would be The Governor Hotel at Waterloo Rd.

The group operates the Australian Hotel and Brewery at Rouse Hill, as well as the Hillside Hotel at Castle Hill.

The three-storey hotel would trade 7am to 3am six days per week, and until midnight on Sundays.

The would-be operators said in their application The Governor would target an “up market” customer base, drawing on the surrounding business community.

A three-storey office building currently occupies the site.

The proposal has met opposition from nearby childcare centre, Nought to Five.

Administration worker Gabbie Clinch said the pub would instil a drinking culture in front of children at two centres.

She also feared some patrons might damage surrounding property after leaving.

“We’re concerned about the security of our centre. Drunk people urinating and sleeping, people smashing windows,” she said.

“We’re in an area where late in the evening and on weekends it’s a dead part of town.

“We don’t understand why they’re putting it there.”

The hotel group cited Ryde Council’s vision to establish a night-time economy in the business district.

Mayor Jerome Laxale has said the area is a ghost town at night, and wants to provide help.

The hotel group said the pub would help achieve this.

While it acknowledged the potential for anti-social behaviour, its plans outlined measures to prevent this using good management practices and security patrols.

The proponents of the pub did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Ryde Local Area Command was unable to comment as it is still assessing the plans.

The public comment period has closed.
