Just 10 seconds into her first professional boxing bout on Friday, Ebanie Bridges was dropped to the canvas.
Unfortunately for the Dural local’s opponent Mahiecka Pareno, it was the best thing that could have happened to her.
“It woke me up,” Bridges said. “I certainly wasn’t expecting that to happen but it just fired me up even more. I was just relentless for the two rounds after that.”
The former maths teacher went on to claim the majority decision victory as she got her professional career off to the perfect start.
“For me, winning like that and having to tough it out and come back was better than dropping a weaker opponent.
“I’m a lot more happy that it was a tough fight and that she came to win.”
Although she’s riding high from the victory, Bridges’ will have to wait a little while to get back in the ring after suffering a high ankle sprain when she was dropped.
“I’m hoping to be ready to get back in there around the end of April,” she said.
“I learned so much from that fight and I just want to get back in there and work on it all.”
