Ahead of her professional boxing debut, Ebanie Bridges only has eyes for one thing — destruction.
The 32-year-old, from Dural, is fighting Mahiecka Pareno at next week’s Star of the Ring event at Hordern Pavilion, and she’s under no illusion as to what awaits her inside the ring.
“Boxing is the hurt business — you don’t get into it to play around,” Bridges said.
“I want to destroy her. I want to break her heart and break her spirit.
“It’s nothing personal but she’s in the way of my goal and I’ve got to show her who’s boss.”
After spending most of her life fighting in some form of combat sport, Friday — February 8 — cannot come soon enough for Bridges.
“I’ve always loved hitting people,” she said.
“I did years of martial arts training in kickboxing and Muay Thai.
“I actually started with boxing for the footwork but I realised it was very different to anything I’d ever done before.
“It’s so technical and strategic, and I loved the tactics to it.
“I’ve been fighting as an amateur for two-and-a-half years now and this professional fight has been a long time coming.
“It’s a really great card as well with lots of really good Aussie talent.
“It’s a lot of exposure for me and I couldn’t really ask for a better show to make my debut.”
Along with her killer instinct, the “blonde bomber” credits the support of her coach Anthony Redwood from Grange High Performance for getting her to this position.
“He’s been a massive part of my boxing,” she said.
“He’s the reason why it’s skyrocketed since I joined up with him.”
Bridges’ workmates at the AllStars Sports Bar at Bella Vista Hotel will be showing the entire Star of the Ring event, including her first fight.
The screening will begin at 7pm Friday, February 8.
