WILEY Park’s Rachael Belle Myers is proud to be a trail blazer for women and people of diverse backgrounds in the highly competitive film industry.

Ms Myers’ production Three Feet Deep took out the best original score at the Made In West Film Festival at Liverpool last month.

The film was also nominated in categories for best film, best director, best cinematographer, best editor and best actor.

The musical score was created by composer Anisha Thomas, who is hailed by Ms Myers as a tremendous talent. The film had a cast of 12 with Craig James playing the lead and Luke Newnham the villain.

The latest recognition is a fitting reward for Ms Myers, who does her film work at night and on weekends because she has a full-time job.

She not only writes, directs and produces her films but even funds some of them, making this latest award even more satisfying.

Ms Myers said Three Feet Deep is a “film noir inspired crime thriller that follows the story of a grave digger for hire who breaks his code and decides to spy on one of his criminal clients, leading him to the biggest moral dilemma of his life”.

“Anisha’s composition for Three Feet Deep is of Hollywood quality,” said Ms Myers.

“The film explores multiple themes including karma, responsibility and how one person can truly make a difference.

“It is undeniably hard for anyone in this industry, but I thank Made in the West for providing a platform for which many different voices can share their unique stories.”

Ms Myers founded her own company, Jaded Belle Productions, in 2014 and has racked up an impressive line up of films, including First World Problems and Curated Illusions.

“I have always been a story teller and always written my own stuff, including poetry,” Ms Myers said.

“However, in the last few years I wanted to deliver something visual and currently have a lot of things in the pipeline.

“This is a very tough industry and is very challenging specially if you are a woman or from a different background.

“But I am very excited that Three Feet Deep has won the award because it empowers me.

“I met Anisha Thomas a year ago when I needed a musical score for one of my films.

“She did such a great job that I knew I would use her again.

“For Three Feet Deep, she produced something different from the usual piano score you get for short films.”

The seven-minute movie was filmed in Padstow and Carlingford and the cast and crew were drawn from several western Sydney suburbs.

Ms Myers is working on an eight-part web series on cyberbullying, saying she has also been a victim.

“Trolls Anonymous is a dark comedy about cyberbullies,” she said.

“The goal is to inspire change in the world by humanising online trolls, letting them know that there is support out there and they do not need to behave the way that they do.”
