A man accused of organising the getaway cars for one of the Sydney underworld’s alleged tit-for-tat murders has been committed to stand trial in the NSW Supreme Court.

Rami Islander’s execution in his Belmore driveway in May 2022 was the third fatal organised crime-related shooting in as many weeks, with his step-uncle and feared underworld figure Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad and Omar Zahed also losing their lives.

The deaths of Iskander, Zahed and Ahmad prompted NSW Police to form Taskforce Erebus, co-ordinating investigations into more than a dozen murders since the city’s gang war exploded in late 2020.

Five months after Iskander’s death police arrested Vincent Lambroglou, 41, in Oatley and charged him with arranging the getaway cars.

He has been in custody on remand ever since.

In October 2022, NSW Police Homicide Squad boss Danny Doherty said it was not alleged Vincent Lambroglou pulled the trigger to kill Iskander – but that he allegedly “enabled” the murder to happen.

“Police will allege the 41-year-old man was responsible for organising the getaway cars,” he said a the time.

“He’s (allegedly) assisted in enabling a 23-year-old man to be murdered on the streets of Sydney.”

Vincent Lambroglou was arrested in October 2022.

Lambroglou appeared on screen before Magistrate Paul Mulroney at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, where his matters were committed for trial at the NSW Supreme Court.

He has pleaded not guilty to murder, accessory after the fact to murder, participating in a criminal group as a back-up, dealing with crime proceeds above $100,000, dealing with crime proceeds below $100,000 as a back-up, and drug possession as a related charge.

Additional charges of knowingly dealing with crime proceeds, participating in a criminal group and accessory before the fact to murder have been withdrawn and dismissed.

Lambroglou will be arraigned at the NSW Supreme Court on November 3.
